Welcome to the CGC Free Comic Book Day and Comics Giveaway Day FAQ, here to explain exactly what we're up to on the 2nd of May! If you have questions that this doesn't answer please get in touch and we will try to help.
Q. So what is Free Comic Book Day and what is Comics Giveaway Day?
A. Free Comic Book Day is a day when we give out free comics! Plus this year for the first time ever, Comics Giveaway Day will happen on the same date (Saturday the 2nd of May 2026). It’s your chance to grab free comics, discover new stories, and connect with your local community of fans and creators.
Q. What, any comics? Can I just take everything?
A. No, these comics are not regular comics from the shelves, they are from a selection of special comics produced exclusively for Free Comic Book Day plus comics produced specially for Comics Giveaway Day. You can grab free comics on the day in exchange for a small donation to charity. Even better, this year CGC will be Matching donations made so please be as generous as you can. All funds raised will support food banks in Worthing and Chichester, which provide vital support to local people struggling with the ever increasing cost of living. So why not come down on the day to grab some comics and support our local charities at the same time?
Q.What do I need to do to get my free comics?
A. Turn up on the day! No strings, no tickets, just comics.
Q. I'm not near Chichester or Worthing will my local comic book store be running FCBD and Comics Giveaway Day?
A. Comic book stores all do things differently so you will have to check with them.
Q. Can you put aside some free comics for me?
A. Unfortunately not, there is no pre-ordering or preferential treatment, it's first come first served!
Q. Will there be enough free comics?
A. When they're gone, they're gone! We've bought quite a lot this year so we should be able to get you what you want, but please forgive us if we run out of comics or even just the comic you want as this is a very popular event.
Q. Can I cosplay?
A. Of course! Cosplay is encouraged - show us alll of your cosplay looks!
Q. Are the books suitable for all ages?
A. Some are, others are for more mature readers but publishers colour code books to show who they are suitable for. See the image below for guidance on age ratings. Comics Giveaway Day titles have slightly different colours for each age group (also included below)
Q. What do I do next?
A. Put the date in your calendar and tell your friends! Free Comic Book Day and Comics Giveaway Day would be nothing without people to enjoy the comics, so the more the merrier!
