New Comics Day 3rd July 2019 - Swords, Sorcery and the World's Strangest Superheroes

Strap in folks, it's a big one... DC are covering all the bases this week with Lois Lane #1 (Greg Rucka, Mike Perkins) kicking off a new 12 part mini-series that sees our intrepid reporter diving headfirst into a story that could disrupt governments, countries and.. Supermans life! DC's Young Animal offers up Doom Patrol: Weight of the Worlds #1 (Gerard Way, Jeremy Lambert, James Harvey) sees the Worlds Strangest Superheroes setting off on a new adventure through time and space, while the Black Label imprint gives us Joker (Brian Azzarello, Mick Gray , Lee Bermejo), a new printing of the Batman Damned prequel telling the story of one fateful night with Gotham's Clown Prince.

Meanwhile Marvel are giving all their classics a new lease of life with titles such as Captain America / Invaders : Bahamas Triangle #1 (Roy Thomas, Jerry Ordway) featuring some geogrpahically challeneged heroes taking on a Nazi threat, alongside Fantastic Four: The Prodigal Son (Peter David,Francesco Manna), a new three part mini that not only has Marvels First Family featured, but also sees the Herald of Galactus and the Guardians of the galaxy joining in the fun and (hopefully) saving the world! Plus there is the Ms. Marvel Annual #1 (Magdalene Visaggio, Jonathan Lam) in which our embiggening heroine faces none less than the Super Skrull himself! Plus there is Aero #1 (Zhou Liefen, Greg Pak, Pop Mhan, Keng) coming straight out of the pages of the recent War of the Realms to give us a whole new hero and a new ongoing series!

Angling for the award for this weeks longest new Marvel title (but just missing out) is Secret Warps: Soldier Supreme Annual #1 (Al Ewing, Mark Waid, Alex Lins, Carlos E. Gomez) because that dubious distinction goes to Star Wars: Age of Resistance: Finn #1 (Tom Taylor, Ramon Rosanas) gives us an idea of what FN-2187 did before donning his helmet, and then throwing it away again...

Everyone's favourite barbarian is back with not one but two collections this week; Conan The Barbarian: Life and Death of Conan (Jason Aaron, Mahmud A. Asrar, Gerardo Zaffino) and Conan: Jewels of Gwahlur and other stories (P. Craig Russell, Jimmy Palmiotti, Darick Robertson, Mark Texeira, Darick Robertson) are both hitting the shelves this week, and if you need an extra dose of sword and sorcery why not also check out Coda vol1 (Si Spurrier, Matias Bergara) which tells the tale of a useless bard and his slightly terrifying wife, on a mission (don't call it a quest) to save the world from... well you'll just have to read it to find out!

Indie writer Christopher Sebela is gunning for your wallets this week, with his new series Test (Christopher Sebela, Jen Hickman) kicking off a dystopian future of medical testing and extreme implants in need of a hero, and the return of Crowded #7 (Christopher Sebela, Ro Stein, Ted Brandt) which sees Charlie and Vita flee their pursuers and head for... Las Vegas? What could possibly go wrong?

We have two big space-based series kicking off from big creators - Jason Aaron takes a break from Conan and Thor to kick off his new series Sea Of Stars where the life of a widower space trucker takes a turn to the wild side and there is a new min-series featuring space pirates and revenge in Space Bandits #1 (Mark Millar, Matteo Scalera).

Fans of Dragon Ball might have wondered what happens when the fighting stops, and No One Left To Fight #1 (Aubrey Sitterson, Fico Ossio) is here to answer the question. Meanwhile Postal: Deliverance #1 (Bryan Hill, Matt Hawkins, Raffaele Ienco) also starts off anew arc, with the repercussions of the last story hitting home for Mark and Laura. There is also a one-shot in Jeff Lemire's  extended Black Hammer universe, with the World of Black Hammer Encyclopedia (Jeff Lemire, Tate Brombal,Tyler Crook, David Rubin, Wilfredo Torres, Christian Ward, Tonci Zonjic, Matt Kindt, Emi Lenox) delving into the back stories of the many (now optioned for TV) characters.

On the longer front from the indies this week we also have The Massive Omnibus vol 1 (Brian Wood ,Garry Brown, Kristian Donaldson, Jordie Bellaire) which contains the first fifteen issues of the post-everything drama. Monstress vol1 (Marjorie M. Liu, Sana Takeda) is an epic 500 page hardcover of the gorgeous fantasy epic. Finally there is the second volume of the epic The Boys (Garth Ennis, Darick Robertson) hardcover omnibus set.
