New Comics Day 31st July 2019 - You Want New Comics, Yes?

The House of Ideas are coming for you wallets this week, with a whole slew of new titles and trades, the biggest of which is no doubt Powers Of X #1 (Jonathan Hickman, R. B. Silva), the next instalment in Hickman's massive mutant crossover series, which is designed to change the X-universe forever (and if you still need House of X #1 we got ya)...

Also gracing the shelves this week is a new mini-series featuring fan-favourite Death's Head #1 (Tini Howard, Kei Zama), who is a mercenary on a mission. Speaking of mercs, Deadpool vol. 2 (Skottie Young, Nic Klein, Scott Hepburn) sees Wade Wilson taking on... Santa Claus? The weirdness continues in Secret Warps: Iron Hammer #1 (Al Ewing, Tini Howard, Ario Anandito, Carlos E. Gomez), with the Warp World heroes crashing in to one another.

Meanwhile back on Earth, Eddie Brock and his alien BFF are back together in Venom Annual #1 (Ryan Cady, Emily Lerner, Simone Di Meo), and Otto Octavius dons the Spidey-suit once again in Superior Spider-Man vol. 1 (Christos N. Gage, Mike Hawthorne). We also have a reprinting of the utterly stunning classic Elektra: Assassin (Frank Miller (A/CA) Bill Sienkiewicz). Lastly in the Marvel universe there is Daredevil vol. 1 (Chip Zdarsky, Marco Checchetto, Lalit Kumar Sharma), and in a galaxy far, far away there is Star Wars: Age of Resistance: Special (all the creators).

Meanwhile DC are resting on their laurels and only releasing three new books this week, but both are big hitters, in the form of Justice League Dark Annual (James Tynion IV, Ram V, Guillem March) which gives Swamp Thing centre stage, and Green Lantern Annual (Grant Morrison, Giuseppe Camuncoli), in which Hal Jordan takes on a new sidekick. Plus for all the family there is Dear Justice League (Michael Northrop, Gustavo Duarte) in which the famous heroes answer readers letters. (Although they do have Batman Last Knight #2 and Batman who Laughs #7 for those waiting on the next parts!)

The indies are out in force, with new titles such as Boston Metaphysical Society (Madeleine Holly-Rosing, Emily Hu), and Sonic The Hedgehog: Tangle and Whisper #1, (Ian Flynn, Evan Stanley). Red Winter #1 (Michael Gordon, Francisco Munoz) kicks of a story of gang warfare in Moscow, The Killers #1 (B. Clay Moore, Fernando Dagnino) is a tale of five assassins recruited to the same job, and Manor Black #1 (Cullen Bunn, Brian Hurtt, Tyler Crook) is about a family of troubled sorcerers. Also from Cullen Bunn is Knights Temporal #1 (Cullen Bunn, Fran Galan) about a knight returning from the Crusades to witness even more horror, Leave The Light On #1 (Bradley Golden, George Aguilar, Alex Sarabia) is about a serial killer in New York City, Red Sonja: Lord of Fools (Mark James Russell, Bob Q, Katie O'Meara) is here for your barbarian needs, and for wrestling fans there is WWE: The Phenomenal One (Dennis Hopeless, Kendall Goode).

For a longer read we have The Boys Omnibus vol3 (Garth Ennis, Darick Robertson) just in time for the release of the new TV adaptation, a new graphic novel adaption of literary and TV sensation The Handmaids Tale (Margaret Atwood, Renee Nault) and we have The Kitchen vol. 1 (Ollie Masters (A) Ming Doyle) which is soon to be a Hollywood movie.

Then there is Deadly Class vol. 8 (Rick Remender, Wes Craig), X-O Manowar vol. 6 (Matt Kindt, Juan Jose Ryp) and the Britannia (Peter Milligan, Juan Jose Ryp, Robert Gill) deluxe hardcover.
