On June 5th 2019 new comic book day featured a new book from Marvel about a jewellery loving thief, and the first volume of a D&D-tinted fantasy comic. This week... there's a glitch in the matrix

Speaking of Knull, he's getting around a bit this week as King In Black: The Immortal Hulk #1 (Al Ewing, Aaron Kuder) sees Joe Fixit get the symbiote treatment, when all he wants is a nice holiday.

There,s a double sci-fi hit starting this week as well, first we have a new limited series event set between Season 4 and Season 5 of Amazon's hit series The Expanse #1 (Corinna Bechko, Alejandro Aragon). Second,  everyone's favourite cyberpunk dystopia gets a new start: Blade Runner 2029 #1 (Michael Green, Mike Johnson, Andres Guinaldo, Peach Momoko), where Ash continues to hunt the streets Los Angeles for renegade Replicants, but this time she's trying to protect as many as she can find? 

Long before Hollywood brought the story to life, a comics classic gave us the return of Bucky Barnes, and the birth of The Winter Soldier (Ed Brubaker, Steve Epting, more). Speaking of rebirths, Stephen Strange regains the use of his hands and has to choose between his former career and the mystic arts in Dr Strange: Surgeon Supreme vol. 1 (Mark Waid, Kev Walker).

Younger readers can head back into the archives of the Armoured Avenger with Marvel Vault of Heroes: Iron Man (Fred Van Lente, James Cordeiro, Ronan Cliquet, Rafa Sandoval, Chris Giarrusso, Graham Nolan).

Jessica Drew is fighting for her life while someone is pulling the strings of her web in Spider-Woman: Bad Blood (Karla Pacheco, Paulo Siqueira, Pere Perez)

David is trying to get to New York City and the protection of the Avengers, as the world mutates around him in Marvels X (Alex Ross, Jim Krueger, Well-Bee), but even Cap and friends don't understand what is happening to the world, or how to stop it.

Travel down the rabbit hole of alt-universes in Tales from the Dark Multiverse: Crisis on Infinite Earths #1 - in one timeline, Earth-1's Superman stopped the Superman of Earth-2 from going into final battle, but in the Dark Multiverse, it's Jor-L of Earth-2 who survives, changing the landscape for all that follows.

Teen Titans: Endless Winter Special  is part 6 of the latest DC event, and Crush, Roundhouse, Kid Flash, and Red Arrow embark on a bonding exercise with new partners from the original New Teen Titans: Donna Troy and Beast Boy. Then for younger readers, House of El: The Shadow Threat (Claudia Gray, Eric Zawadzki) is the story of two teens on Krpyton who must join forces to try and find out where the extinction level threat is coming from.

The infant Sunstar will grow up to fulfil his destiny as Earth's most powerful superhero and roommate to Jesus Christ - but you can find out what happened in his youth as Second Coming: Only Begotten Sun #1 (Mark Russell, Leonard Kirk, Richard Pace) drops onto the racks this week. More worlds collide in Star Bastard Loggerhead (Andrew Clemson, Brian Dawson) a new one shot that has everyone's favourite space-degenerate crossing paths with the bloody beast of the bayou!

Post Americana #1 (Steve Skroce, Dave Stewart) gives us the most sophisticated super bunker in the world. It was built to ensure the survival of America's executive branch of government and its most important citizens, should the unthinkable happen. When the world ended, the executive branch failed to reach the sanctuary, but the elite citizenry did. Eighty years later, one of their own has named himself the new President of the United States. His plan? Subjugate the survivors of the American Wasteland using the same bunker resources meant to rebuild it. The only thing standing in their way is a deadly Wasteland girl, hellbent on revenge!

Once the famed hero Legend, Richard McCoy is now a drunk has-been self-medicating against the end of the world. Can he pull himself together enough to take down the big bad that ruined everything for him? Whatever the answer, it's going to be a Sh*tshow #1(Adam Barnhardt, Samir Simao)

Sex, drugs, and murder in 1980s Los Angeles... presented in the way that only Brubaker and Phillips can. This isn't their usual pulp noir though, Reckless (Ed Brubaker, Jacob Phillips, Sean Phillips) is the first of three standalone stories of the good guy.

One year after their home was destroyed, the story continues for beloved heroines Max and Chloe, as they face fate and twist timelines in the emotional reunion fans never thought they'd see, and you can read all about in the Life Is Strange: Year One hardcover box set (Emma Vieceli, Andrea Izzo)

Dune vol. 1 (Frank Herbert, Kevin J. Anderson, Brian Herbert, Raul Allen, Martin Patricia ), is the graphic novel adaptation of Frank Herbert's epic science-fiction masterpiece set in the far future amidst a sprawling feudal interstellar society, tells the story of Paul Atreides as he and his family accept control of the desert planet Arrakis.

Set after the ending of the game, Horizon: Zero Dawn vol. 1 (Anne Toole, Ann Maulina) sees the return of Aloy and Talanah, as humanity continues to fight for survival. Speaking of fighting, Mal gets trapped in a pocket dimension where time works differently and dinosaurs still roam around - can she get back to Ripley and her other friends? Find out in Lumberjanes vol. 16 (Shannon Watters, Kat Leyh, AnneMarie Rogers)

Judge Dredd: Control features tales ranging from deathly serious to outrageously funny, including flesh-eating Kleggs, hijacking ape gangs and out of control war robots reprogrammed by insane accountants!

The critically acclaimed Jim Henson's The Storyteller: Ghosts (Various) celebrates four mythic tales of when ghosts haunted the Earth, inspired by folklore from around the world and told in the spirit of Jim Henson's beloved television series.

Join a tight-knit squad of animal companions on a wild adventure investigating a sinister botanical conspiracy among the furry nobility in Dungeon Critters (Natalie Riess, Sara Goetter), and the God of Petulance and Misfortune is out to thwart the God of Evils plans in Nico Bravo and the Cellar Dwellers (Mike Cavallaro)

Based on the hit anime Carole and Tuesday vol. 1 (Shinichiro Watanabe, Bones, Morito Yamataka ) is the story two girls from different worlds connect through a love of music and a desire to make it big on Mars. Social standing in dictated by the draw of a card in Castle Heaven vol. 1 (Chise Ogawa) but what happens whe your king card is taken from you...?

The adventures of Emi, Maou and friends continue in Devil Is A Part Timer vols. 16 & 18, and Kuninaka Aoba is thrust down a rabbit hole, into a strangely familiar world from children's stories-only this version comes with a dark and gruesome twist. It's kill or be killed, in Fairy Tale: Battle Royale vol. 4 (Soraho Ina)!
