New Comics Day 11th September 2019 - Every-king is Thorsome!

DC continue their summer event with Year of the Villain: The Riddler #1 (Mark Russell, Scott Godlewski), with one unhappy trickster determined to find out why Lex Luther failed to give him a gift like everyone else. They also kick off a new six issue mini series with Gotham City Monsters (Steve Orlando, Amancay Nahuelpan) in which Frankenstein assembles a new squad of misfits to take on his old nemesis. Plus there is volume 10 of the current ongoing series Batman: Knightmares (Tom King, Travis Moore, Mitch Gerads, Jorge Fornes, Lee Weeks, Amanda Conner, Dan Panosian, John Timms, Yanick Paquette, Mikel Janin).

They are also re-releasing a number of previous Bat books, with Dark Knight Returns (Frank Miller, Klaus Janson) celebrating it's 30th anniversary, Batman: The Killing Joke (Alan Moore, Brian Bolland) hardcover and Batman: Hush (Jeph Loeb, Jim Lee, Scott Williams) rounding out the DC selection for this week.

The superstar writer that has been working on the epic-level Thunder God stories return this week with his swansong, King Thor #1 (Jason Aaron, Esad Ribic), finishing off seven years on the title. We also have two trades from the War of the Realms event this week, WotR: Spider-man / Daredevil (Sean Ryan, Jason Aaron, Nico Leon, Andrea Sorrentino) and WotR: Venom (Cullen Bunn, Donny Cates, Frank Tieri, Iban Coello, Danilo Beyrouth) hitting the shelves here in Midgard. There is also a crossover with the event in Unbeatable Squirrel Girl vol. 10 (Ryan North, Derek Charm, Naomi Franquiz, Erica Henderson), as Dorren is recruited by Loki to do her part.

Moon Knight: Annual (Cullen Bunn, Ibrahim Moustafa) sees our hero take on Kang the Conqueror, the current mini-event trilogy ends with Guardians of the Galaxy: Prodgial Son (Peter David, Francesco Manna) and the Marvel summer event continues with Absolute Carnage: Symbiote of Vengeance (Ed Brisson, Juan Frigeri), and we also have Spider-Man: Many Hosts of Carnage (David Michelinie, Tom DeFalco, Joe Bennett, Mark Bagley) taking a deep dive into the history of the symbiote, and there are tales from Wakanda's past in Marvel Tales: Black Panther (Roy Thomas, Don McGregor, Reginald Hudlin, Frank Giacoia, Rich Buckler, Ken Lashley). Finally from Marvel, Star Wars: Age of Resistance: Supreme Leader Snoke #1 (Tom Taylor, Leonard Kirk) sees the training of Kylo Ren begin, and takes this weeks award for longest most ridiculous title!

It is bodysnatchers time in Midnight Sky #1 (James Pruett, Scott Van Domelen) from Scout Comics, and critically acclaimed series Trees returns for a new arc with Trees: Three Fates #1 (Warren Ellis, Jason Howard), taking us to Russia for a new murder mystery in the shadow of one of the strange alien structures, and from the same pen we also have Transmetropolitan vol. 2 (Warren Ellis,Rodney Ramos, Darick Robertson). Then there is grindhouse-style revenge tale Chastity #1 (Leah Williams, Daniel Maine) which shows you should always be careful who you kidnap. Chainsaw Reindeer continues the hyper-violent theme when one of Santa's sled-pullers loses his mind and goes on a world-wide rampage.

Fans of the Netflix series won't want to miss out on The Umbrella Academy: HC Library Edition vol. 1 (Gerard Way, Gabriel Ba), and for the more mature reader we've got Unnatural vol. 3 (Mirka Andolfo), concluding the murder mystery story of Leslie and her friends. Then there is the Thought Bubble Collection (Everyone. No, really), and anthology of works from guests over the last ten years at the UK's premier comic convention, and Black Hammer: Black Hammer 45 (Ray Fawkes, Jeff Lemire, Matt Kindt,  Sharlene Kindt) which sees the Lemire universe expand back to World War Two.

There is also Oblivion Song vol. 3 (Robert Kirkman, Lorenzo De Felici) out this week, alongside The Mask Omnibus vol. 2 (Evan Dorkin, John Arcudi, Bob Fingerman, Gary Erskine, Bernie Mireault, Doug Mahnke), and Chrononauts (Mark Millar, Sean Murphy) about time-travellers who go off course. 

The manga shelves are getting some new additions too, with My Hero Academia Smash vol. 1 (Hirofumi Neda), along with Mob Psycho 100 vol. 1 (One), Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess vol. 5 (Akira Himekawa) plus there is Fairy Tale: 100 Years Quest vol. 1 (Hiro Mashima, Atsuo Ueda).
