New Comics Book Day 2nd June 2021 - Not Enough Horror Comics Lakely?

Before we kick off this week just a reminder that there's a Bank Holiday this week, so your books will be arriving later than usual - pull lists will be ready Weds afternoon - Just to add extra excitement Diamond are changing the couriers they use to deliver to us, so all of this is pending them knowing how to move comics around the country safely!

So back to the terrible pun at the top - Tynion has been pushing out hit after hit recently (Dept of Truth, Something is Killing the Children) so check out his next dark tale...The Nice House on the Lake #1. Everyone who was invited to the house knows Walter - well, they know him a little, anyway. Some met him in childhood; some met him months ago. And Walter's always been a little...off. But after the hardest year of their lives, nobody was going to turn down Walter's invitation to an astonishingly beautiful house in the woods, overlooking an enormous sylvan lake. It's beautiful, it's opulent, it's private - so a week of putting up with Walter's weird little schemes and nicknames in exchange for the vacation of a lifetime? Why not? All of them were at that moment in their lives when they could feel themselves pulling away from their other friends; wouldn't a chance to reconnect be...nice?

It's a big week for fans of a galaxy far, far away, as the summer hottest crossover event kicks up a notch with the release of Star Wars: War of the Bounty Hunters #1 (Charles Soule, Luke Ross). At was for the greatest prize of all: Han Solo! The hunt begins... Nobody. Steals. From BOBA FETT! The notorious bounty hunter will not stop until he gets what's rightfully his. For the thief, no corner of the galaxy is safe. Good thing for them that the REBEL ALLIANCE, THE EMPIRE and every bounty hunter in the galaxy is standing in Boba's way.  With a last-page reveal that will blow this Death Star-sized story wide open, Issue #1 is just the beginning. The biggest crossover in Star Wars history will continue raging through the pages of the event miniseries and tie-ins through October. Only one hunter will be left standing, and the STAR WARS galaxy will never be the same!

Plus there is a 40th anniversary special edition celebrating Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back. This deluxe collector's edition presents interviews, features and unseen images from the fan favourite movie.

Sticking with events, Heroes Reborn: American Knights (Paul Grist, Chris Allen), is an epic, oversize slugfest between the Squadron Supreme and an otherworldly group of Avengers for the final fate of a whacked-out world! The terrifying debut of the tie-in to The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It begins in DC Horror Presents: The Conjuring: Love Story #1 (David L. The pin-up queen... of adventure is back! Dynamite Entertainment proudly presents: Bettie Page in "The Curse of the Banshee" #1 (Stephen Mooney, Jethro "Jet" Morales). Utilising several clues found at the ancient Key Artifact site in the Middle Americas, McKnight and Bettie surmise that the Key Artefact has been relocated to an ancient burial site in rural Ireland. They give chase!

A dirty cop, a drugged-up back-up dancer, and an angsty adolescent god; the absolute worst dudes in the galaxy are on a raunch-filled hunt for a missing pop star. The Worst Dudes #1 (Aubrey Sitterson, Tony Gregori) is a hilarious, aggressively weird, willfully vulgar detective story.

While humanity grapples to survive on Mars, the Ministry of Exploration pins mankind's last hope of resurgence on an astronaut who's scared of space. Red Shift #1 (H.S. Tak, Brent David McKee) sees Hellener and his team of explorers hunt for a new home while civil war threatens to obliterate the last bastion of human life.

North Force #0 (Erik Larsen) - "a new force to be reckoned with!" - Because you demanded it: Savage Dragon #259 reworked and reformatted to spotlight this all-new Canadian super-team! Letters pages and funnies have been replaced with bios for team members. The Canadian super-team North Force is looking to recruit a new member to their team: Malcolm Dragon.

Who Can Stop The Chimera? Five individuals bound by a cult-like hivemind, they terrorised small towns with their horrifying supernatural sense-based powers, leaving death and destruction in their wake. Regan, one of the Chimera, escaped and has been in hiding, with her murderous eyes bound, overcome with guilt. Until now in Basilisk #1 (Cullen Bun, Jonas Scharf)... when a victim from her past forces her to hunt down the other four of her kind.

The Legends from the battle royale video game find themselves pulled together to rescue the city from Mad Scientists, brutal assassins, and the sudden and sinister grip of the  Syndicate, a corrupt cabal attempting to "fix" arena outcomes in their favor. Will the Legends hold up to their celebrity status and be the heroes Solace needs in Apex Legends: Overtime #1 (Jesse Stern, Neil Edwards)?

When Rick and Morty buy the greatest hat in all the multiverse, it attracts an evil so banal that even our intrepid adventurers may not be able to stop it. In true comics-event tradition, this one features everyone from Rick and Morty to Mr. Poopybutthole, Pickle Rick, and MORE. Rick and Morty: Ricks New Hat #1 (Alex Firer, Fred Stresing) is a faux-crossover event from the evil geniuses behind Rick and Morty Presents: Birdperson!

For the kids this week comes Misadventurers #1 (Joseph A. Michael, Nicolas Touris). Thrown to the outer realms of Nether-Earth, Jimminy, a young show-off wizard apprentice, teams up with a gruff Viking princess, Marius. This awkward alliance must outwit oddball villains as they struggle to return home, but they're not alone. Will the mysterious presence secretly trailing them turn out to be friend or foe?

At the end of every horror movie, one girl always survives...in this case, Cassie Hack not only survives, she turns the tables by hunting and destroying the horrible slashers that would do harm to the innocent! Alongside the gentle giant known as Vlad, the two cut a bloody path through those who deserve to be put down...hard! Read the story of the ultimate final girl in the Hack/Slash Omnibus vol. 1 (Tim Seeley, Dave Crosland, Skottie Young, Stefano Caselli).

There's a double whammy for Trekkies this week, as both Star Trek: The Next Generation: Mirror Broken (Scott Tipton, David Tipton,  J. K. Woodward) and Star Ttek: Year Five vol. 3 (Jackson Lanzing, Collin Kelly, Jim McCann, Jody Houser, Angel Hernandez, Silvia Califano, J. K. Woodward) hit the trade shelves.

In The Pride, FabMan is sick of being seen as a joke. Tired of the LGBTQ+ community being seen as inferior to straight heroes, he thinks it's about damn time he did something about it. Bringing together some of the world's greatest LGBTQ+ superheroes, the Pride is born to protect the world and fight prejudice, misrepresentation and injustice-not to mention a pesky supervillain or two. The Pride omnibus (Various) brings a whole host of extra, self-contained stories and adventures starring the heroes of the Pride! See the team members face down crazed shooters, invasions, and even a sixty-foot-tall drag queen!

Travel back to the world of Black Hammer in Skulldigger and Skeleton Boy (Jeff Lemire, Tonci Zonjic), as Spiral City finds itself trapped in a vicious cycle of crime, corruption, and violence. With the heart of the city at stake, a vigilante rises in Skulldigger. However, when the nefarious Grimjim escapes from prison, will Skulldigger and his ward, Skeleton Boy, be enough to save Spiral City?

The Down River People (Adam Smith, Matt Fox) is a riveting story about a man attempting to survive the complicated and dangerous web of his family's criminal ties with his soul intact

In Stravaganza vol. 1 (Akihito Tomi) a mysterious warrior travels the kingdom of Auroria, battling monstrous creatures and seeking adventure.
