Well would you look at that - it's only new comic book day coming round again! Lets kick things off with DC this week, who are treating us to a new edition of Shazam: Origins (Geoff Johns, Gary Frank), a trade paperback to tie in with the upcoming movie release, for those of you that would like a primer on Billy Batson and his magical backstory! There is also volume 3 of Bombshells United (Marguerite Bennett, Sandy Jarrell, David Hahn, Aneke, Siya Oum, Marguerite Sauvage, Terry Dodson, Rachel Dodson), in which the Batgirls heads to Hawaii but not for sun, sand or... well, you know. DC have also got plenty of your favourites coming on in single issues this week, including a second printing of Young Justice #1 (Brian Michael Bendis, Patrick Gleason), Detective Comics #999 (Peter J. Tomasi, Doug Mahnke, Jaime Mendoza) and Flash #65 (Joshua Williamson, Rafael Sandoval, Jordi Tarragona, Chris Burnham) which is the final part of The Price crossover event!
Meanwhile over at Marvel there is (another) new Carol Danvers book hitting the shelves this week. It is almost as if there is a much anticipated movie coming out soon... anyway Captain Marvel: Braver and Mightier #1 (Jody Houser, Simone Buonfantino, Valerio Schiti) sees Earths Mightiest Hero torn between the responsibilities of her day job and her heroics. Also, would it really be NCBD this month without another X-Men title hitting the shelves? Clearly not, as Age of X-Man X-Tremists #1 (Leah Williams, Georges Jeanty, Rahzzah) starts a new five part tale featuring fan favourites Psylocke, Iceman and Jubilee among others.
On the indie side of town there's a generous selection of both new titles and trades coming out, with fan-fave Man-Eaters (Chelsea Cain,Kate Niemczyk, Lia Miternique) dropping both it's sixth issue and its first collected volume. If you are looking for something on the stranger side of the fence why not check out Weatherman (Jody LeHeup, Dave Steward, Nathan Fox) volume 1, a galaxy-spanning sci-fi epic about the mistakes of the past catching up with a man who seems to have it all, and could now lose it. Also out is Skyward (Joe Henderson, Lee Garbett) volume 2, which has giant bugs in it. Other stuff also happens but hey - giant bugs!
Looking at new titles there is Honour and Curse #1 (Mark London, Nicolas Salamanca), about a young samurai warrior possessed by a demon, Wulfbourne #1 (Brian Middleton), about a young man following the voice of an angel through a dark underworld to heal his broken heart, and Forgotten Queen #1 (Tini Howard, Amilcar Pinna, Viktor Kalvachev), giving us the tale of a witch with an unquenchable thirst for battle and bloodshed, who is once again rising... Lastly we have Punks Not Dead: London Calling #1 (David Barnett, Martin Simmonds), a five part mini-series about following the journey of a young man who is haunted by the ghost of punk rocker than no-one else can see or hear!
