New Comic Book Day 23rd January 2019 - Twisted Tales

There's a lot going on in the world of comics this week so lets get straight into it with Marvel rising star Donny Cates, who launches into his Guardians of the Galaxy series this week with a brand new #1 issue. With a new line-up of Guardians featuring some cosmic surprises and fan-favourite characters, and with Geoff Shaw on art, this is sure to be a big hit! There are also new issues on on-going series Friendly Neighbourhood Spider-Man, Avengers and Immortal Hulk, and volume 1 of Tony Stark: Iron Man from Dan Slott, so there is plenty to keep Marvel fans happy.

It is a relatively quiet week for DC fans, with only one new title - yet again from the pen of Brian Michael Bendis - Naomi is a new character to the world of DC, and this is the start of her story. Or is it...? Bendis is joined by David F. Walker on writing duties, with up and coming star Jamal Campbell on art. Plus there are also lots of new issues of classic titles; Batman, Justice League and Aquaman to name but a few. If the on-going title isn't enough Batman for you, there is also the trade release of the Scott Snyder / Greg Capullo mini-series Dark Nights: Metal, which pulls together aspects of the pairs long-running - and award winning - time on the main title.

On the indie side of thing, IDW keep up their usual high quality output of licensed titles this week, with Go-Bots, My Little Pony and the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles all ticking those nostalgia boxes for readers of a certain age. There's new series debuting from Boom! Box too, with Heavy Vinyl writer Carly Usdin and Goldie Vance artist Noah Hayes, giving us Avant-Guards, a classic jocks vs geeks coming of age tale, that looks both cute and clever.

Image are back to their classic post-apocalyptic ways with a new twist on the classic Dickens story of Oliver - this time he is a futuristic superhero looking to save war-torn England from her oppressors whilst battling the demons of his own mysterious past. Obviously. Plus there are new issues of popular titles such as Monstress, Outcast and Die Die Die, and also trade paperbacks of the stunning Coyotes volume 2 and Proxima Centauri volume 1 for those of you looking for a longer read.

As ever let us know what needs to magically appear in your pull list!

See you all in the shop soon & have a great week!
