Jessica Hubbard

It's nearly New Comic Book Day Wednesday! There'll be high-profile crossovers, much-anticipated revivals, and dark, creator-owned horror books, from the Keanu Reeves-backed action of BRZRKR and the legendary return of JLA/Avengers to the debut of a brand-new DC Elseworlds era, and more. Read on below for all the brand-new #1s, specials, and one-shots arriving this week. If you like the look of any new series, why not add it to your pull list so you never miss a beat?

The New #1s and One-Shots

BRZRKR: Light Draws Breath #1

Created by Keanu Reeves and written by the powerhouse duo Season Butler, and Hugo Award-winner China Miéville, with art by Alessio Avallone, this oversized one-shot takes the immortal B back to the Bronze Age. Following B's sudden death, two rogue scientists siphon a tiny portion of his protoplasm before he can fully reconfigure. From this siphoned material, a brand-new entity is born—one that must desperately learn to navigate its newfound humanity, its powers, and how to fight those who seek to control it.

Club Nephilim #1

Writer Pat Shand teams up with artists Jordi Perez and Elisa Feliz to expand the Mercy Sparx universe in this supernatural, action-packed debut. The series centres on Ladara, a rogue angel and former servant of Heaven who rejected divine reconciliation to carve out her own path. Now, she runs Club Nephilim—a supernatural bazaar and brothel that serves as a sanctuary for outcasts who defy heavenly orders.

DC / Marvel: Superman / Spider-Man #1 (Second Printing)

Following surging demand for the historic crossover event, the 72-page giant returns to shelves with a second printing. The lead story, "Truth, Justice, and Great Responsibility" by Mark Waid and Jorge Jimenez, follows Peter Parker and Clark Kent swapping newsrooms to investigate a global conspiracy engineered by Brainiac and Doctor Octopus. This special printing also features seven additional crossover backup shorts, including Lois Lane meeting Mary Jane, Jimmy Olsen clashing with Carnage, and a heartfelt historic meeting between Pa Kent and Uncle Ben.

Did You Hear About Mimi Green #1

Connor Goldsmith, host of the critically acclaimed Cerebro podcast, makes his comic book writing debut alongside artist Josh Cornillon in this biting wellness-horror miniseries. When a decade-old blog post offensive to fat people resurfaces, popular essayist Mimi Green checks into an isolated Topanga mental health facility to escape the viral cancel-culture furore. But the facility's day-time sound baths give way to restless nights as Mimi is pulled into a gilded, gluttonous alternate version of the building where vanity is brutally punished. Her only hope lies with Natalie, her secret lover, who must track her down before she is devoured.

Doomquest #1

Writer Ryan North and artist Francesco Mobili launch a 10-issue evergreen Doctor Doom epic designed to be the perfect introduction to Marvel's legendary sovereign. Outraged that his rival Reed Richards was invited to a prestigious international event while he was ignored, Doom discovers Reed's plan to "optimise history" by travelling back in time to fix eras wasted on war. Determined to prevent Richards from rewriting history in his own image, Doom decides to do it first—launching an incredible time-travelling battle across all of time and space.

Hornsby & Halo (One shot)

A bold new era begins for Ghost Machine's "Unbelievables" universe, courtesy of Peter J. Tomasi, Peter Snejbjerg, and John Kalisz. Now living under the same roof, Rose and Zach find the coexistence of Heaven and Hell on Earth put to the ultimate test. Their fragile peace is disrupted by the arrival of the "Trillion Dollar Kid," who recruits them for a dangerous mission that proves money can't buy everything.

JLA/Avengers #1 Facsimile Edition

Marvel and DC Comics join forces to reprint the historic 2003 crossover in single facsimile issues, featuring original trade dress and wraparound card stock covers. Written by Kurt Busiek with legendary art by George Pérez, this debut issue sees the Justice League battling the towering Terminus while the Avengers confront Starro, setting off an epic multiversal quest with both realities hanging in the balance. (Note: Marvel is publishing issues #1 and #3, while DC will publish issues #2 and #4).

Lilo and Stitch 626 #1

This all-new series explores Lilo and Stitch's extended family with stories from Daniel Kibblesmith and George Kambadais, alongside artists Elisa Pochetta and George Kambadais. Framed around Pleakley receiving a directive from the United Galactic Federation to compile journals on Experiment 626 (written by Lilo and illustrated by Stitch), this issue features Lilo's interpretation of Agent Cobra Bubbles' secret origin, alongside Captain Gantu going solo on a lawless, Old West-style planet.

Rick and Morty Forever (One shot)

From writer Daniel Kibblesmith and artist Troy Little comes a final, transparently promotional one-shot to bring Oni Press's historic run on the franchise to a close. The issue explores the ultimate punishment for the smartest man in the universe: forcing Rick Sanchez into endless observation of everything he's ever wanted to see while denying him any power to act, leaving him tortured by sheer cosmic impotence.

Superman: Father of Tomorrow #1

This brand-new DC Elseworlds series, written by Kenny Porter with art by Danny Earls, asks what would happen if Jor-El was the one who escaped the death of Krypton. Crash-landing in Kansas and taken in by a kindly couple, Jor-El uses both his superhuman abilities and his brilliant scientific mind to become Earth's greatest protector—reimagining the Man of Steel as a champion of science.

The Life and Death of Lucas Dreamwalker #1

Legendary horror author R.L. Stine and artist Francesco Francavilla present a somnambulist noir-horror adventure. Originally serialised in the Hello Darkness anthology, this oversized issue collects the first three parts of the chilling saga. The story follows Lucas as his third dream death is foretold, exploring the terrifying boundary between nightmare and reality.

Wiccan & Hulkling: Raid of Ultron #1

Serving as this year's Marvel's Voices: Pride special, this one-shot is written by Wyatt Kennedy, Josh Trujillo, and Zoe Tunnell with art by Luciano Vecchio. Wiccan and Hulkling gather their closest friends and family to celebrate their wedding anniversary, but the party is crashed by Ultron, who arrives to reclaim Vision and Viv. The issue also features a high-stakes, brother-sister team-up between Hulkling and Phyla-Vell.
