It's June already and that means you should start thinking about your summer comic book reading list!! New Comic Book Day this week sees the debut of the highly anticipated Absolute Catwoman, and a blockbuster Avengers event. One comic (you know the one) comes with a special Magic: The Gathering card with each issue... Or if that's not your thing, there's also heavy-hitting creator-owned sci-fi and supernatural horror!

The New #1s and One-Shots

Absolute Catwoman #1

Written by Che Grayson and Scott Snyder with art by Bengal, Selina Kyle officially enters the Absolute Universe. Having carved out a highly successful life for herself, Selina is widely recognised as the world's most talented thief. Outfitted with state-of-the-art weaponry and high-tech gear, she operates with the belief that no security system can keep her out. However, when a figure from her past unexpectedly resurfaces, her global empire is thrown into jeopardy. This debut solo series picks up on threads established in Absolute Batman and explores Selina's elusive ties to Black Mask.

Altered States: Warlords #1

Dynamite Entertainment launches a parallel-reality crossover in the vein of classic "What If" storytelling. Written by David Avallone with art by Mariano Benitez-Chapo, the story begins with Red Sonja being mysteriously transported to Barsoom (Mars) in the red planet's ancient past. Her sudden arrival sets off a chain of events that will ripple across the solar system, drawing in other legendary pulp heroes such as Vampirella, John Carter, Dejah Thoris, and Tarzan.

Amazing Spider-Man #546 Facsimile Edition

A meticulous reprint of the landmark 2008 issue that kicked off the fan-favourite Brand New Day era. Following the events of One More Day, Peter Parker embraces a fresh status quo, encounters new players, and meets the monochrome menace destined to become one of his deadliest adversaries: Mister Negative. Written by Dan Slott, Marc Guggenheim, Bob Gale, and Zeb Wells, with art by Steve McNiven, Greg Land, and more.

Avengers: Armageddon #1

Written by Chip Zdarsky with art by Delio Diaz and Frank Alpizar, the next massive Marvel crossover event begins here. Bad Thoughts #1

From writer Ande Parks (co-creator of Extraction) and artist Dave Wachter comes a psychological thriller about a terrifyingly new kind of hero. Bishop #1

Written by Saladin Ahmed with art by Mario Santoro, the time-lost X-Man stars in his own limited series. Bishop's strict personal code is tested when his sister, Shard—whose tragic death has haunted him for years—is sent to the present day right before she died. Bishop must choose between preserving the timeline and risking everything to save her, all while dodging the Final Brotherhood, a deadly group of future assassins sent to eliminate him once and for all.

Jay & Silent Bob: Jays of Future Past #1

Written by Kevin Smith with art by Giuseppe Camuncoli, the iconic New Jersey slackers officially enter the Marvel Universe. When Doctor Doom decrees that Jay and Silent Bob must die, the Fantastic Four, the Avengers, and the X-Men must team up on a joint mission to rescue the dim-witted duo from a lethal case of superhero overload. This crossover blends signature slacker humor with classic superhero adventure.

M1: Monster Racing League #1

Written by Robert and Lily Windom with art by legendary creator Jae Lee and colors by June Chung. When 17-year-old Dev moves to Japan, she stumbles into a dangerous underground world of illegal street racing where speed is power and genetic mutation wins championships. This high-octane sci-fi drama set in near-future Tokyo is described as Fast & Furious meets K-Pop demon hunters.

Monsters #0 Deluxe Edition (One-Shot)

Written and illustrated by Mark Spears, this deluxe remastered edition of the Free Comic Book Day special takes readers on a dark trip to Clown Town. The horror story follows a young girl who meets a mysterious clown promising to take her to a wondrous destination. However, beneath the painted face lies a terrifying truth, transforming her journey into a literal nightmare.

MASK #1

Written by Dan Watters with art by Pye Parr, the next major phase of the Energon Universe officially begins. As the world becomes increasingly unstable, Matt Trakker recruits a specialised network of agents to respond to the next global emergency. Utilising bleeding-edge technology that converts their vehicles into ultimate weapons, the team must stop Miles Mayhem and V.E.N.O.M. from selling out the human race, though Trakker's own dark secrets threaten to compromise the entire mission.

Monsters in Love: A Pride Anthology (One-Shot)

Written by James Tynion IV, Tate Brombal, and more, this 80-page Pride anthology celebrates romantic and monstrous connections, showcasing a diverse lineup of creators and artistic styles.

Skate Ali #1

Written by Kelly Sue DeConnick and Sam Humphries with art by Natacha Bustos. Set in a near-future Los Angeles where skateboarding has been outlawed, Ali is a normal student by day but a rebel on wheels by night. When she slams headfirst into the underground skate scene, she encounters the LA Skull Clan and their masked leader, Skull Queen 9. Powered by a magical force called "the Rush," Ali must decide whether to play it safe or kickflip straight into a high-octane skatepunk revolution.

Supergirl and the Legion of Super Heroes #23 Facsimile Edition

Written by Mark Waid with art by Barry Kitson, this facsimile edition reprints the 2006 classic, specifically showcasing the highly sought-after Adam Hughes variant cover. Ever since she arrived in the 31st century, Kara Zor-El has been convinced that the United Planets, the Legion, and her life as Supergirl are all nothing more than an elaborate dream, making her ripe for a very rude awakening.

Supernatural Special: Castiel #1 (One-Shot)

Written by Preeti Chhibber with art by Pasquale Qualano, the fan-favorite angel Castiel makes his official comic book debut. Plagued by sudden doubts regarding his faith and duty, Castiel follows a trail connected to the Winchesters. He tracks Sam and Dean to Gainesville, Florida, during a chaotic weekend of sports and music, trying to decide whether to aid them in their monster-hunting mission or stay out of their way.

Tales of Asunda: Niobe - She Tribe Vol. 2 #1

Written by Steve Orlando with art by Renato Guedes, this series delivers a bold, modern take on the Lord of the Jungle. Set in an alternate universe, an older, wiser Tarzan and Jane have preserved their youth thanks to the Waters of Kavuru, dedicating their lives and massive resources to protecting the world's natural environments.
