Spring is upon us so let's see what new books are leaping onto the shelves like new born lambs!
Billionaires Island #1 (Mark Russell, Steve Pugh) is a place where anything goes, and anything can be bought - if you are rich enough. But everything comes at a price... Sticking with the theme there is Join The Future #1 (Zack Kaplan, Piotr Kowalsk) in which huge cities give their inhabitants everything they want in order to keep population high, and the few individuals clinging to rural life and under pressure from the mega-cities to assimilate or face the consequences!
Time travel is the name of the game in The Argus #1 (Mark Bertolini, Darryl Knickrehm), when a rogue member of a temporal police force goes insane and starts killing off versions of himself from the time-stream, and it's the ultimate hangover in King of Nowhere (W. Maxwell Prince, Tyler Jenkins) when a drunk wakes up in a town full of deformed crazies with no memory of how he got there.
Man-Eaters: Tomorrow Belongs To You (Chelsea Cain, Lia Miternique) is a satirical promotional catalogue of products to stop your daughter turning into a rabid panther, while Mercy (Mirka Andolfo) is a mysterious tale of Victorian gothic horror from one of the hottest and prolific new creators out there.
The crossover you never knew you needed hits this week in the form of Outer Darkness Chew #1 (John Layman, Rob Guillory, Afu Chan) where somehow a demon laden space adventure is crossed with a crime scene detective who can see the last moments of whatever he eats - We need some of what Layman is on!
Based on the original stories, and featuring a Robert E Howard short prose story, Cimmerian Queen of Black Coast #1 (Jean-David Morvan, Pierre Alary) is a full-throttle Conan story for adults only. Crow Lethe #1 (Tim Seeley (A) Ilias Kyriazis) is the story of circus freak who cannot feel pain but is haunted by a mysterious past, and Dryad (Kurtis J. Wiebe, Justin Osterling) is a new fantasy tale from the writer of Rat Queens.
You can go back to where it all started in Corto Maltese: Ballad of the Salty Sea (Hugo Pratt), the winner of the world's first-ever "Best Graphic Novel" award, taking the prize in 1976 at the Angoulême Fesitval. In Dead Eyes vol. 1 (Gerry Duggan, John McCrea) a short-tempered mercenary is forced out of retirement, and for a magical slice-of-life there is An Embarrassment of Witches (Sophie Goldstein, Jenn Jordan).
Princess Princess Ever After (Katie O'Neill) is the story of what happens after one princess rescues another from her tower. This isn't exactly your average happy ever after though...
Pepper Potts is saving Tony Stark's hide again, as she suits up in Rescue 2020 #1 (Dana Schwartz, Jacen Burrows) and earth's mightiest heroes appear in Marvels (Alex Ross, more), a new six issue mini-series featuring some of the best characters and talent the House of Ideas has to offer.
Spider-Man Noir (Margaret Stohl, Juan Ferreyra) takes us back to 1939 America and sees Peter Parker on an international manhunt for a murderer, and in Strange Academy (Skottie Young, Humberto Ramos) the Sourceror Supreme has decided to take on students, with the help of all your favourite magicians and witches from the Marvel universe.
Trade wise, Natasha is going off grid to solve a mystery in Web of Black Widow (Jody Houser, Stephen Mooney) and there is Dead Man Logan: Welcome Back Logan which has a slight spoiler in the title...
We get the story of how the bad guys react to Superman's earth-rocking big reveal in Superman Villains #1 (Brian Michael Bendis, Matt Fraction, Greg Rucka, Jody Houser, Steve Lieber, Mike Perkins, Eduardo Pansica, Bryan Hitch), and there is a new graphic novel for teen readers in the form of The Oracle Code (Marieke Nijkamp, Manuel Preitano) in which Barbara Gordon tried to decode the greatest secret she knows- herself. Speaking of the bat-family there is also a new edition of Robin: Year One (Chuck Dixon, Scott Beatty, Marcos Martin, Javier Pulido, Robert Campanella) in which we uncover the history behind Dick Grayson's story, from orphaned child to Boy Wonder.
