New Comics Day 22nd July 2020 - Chu's Bliss

Choose Bliss (Sean Lewis, Caitlin Yarsky) - a maxi series about being a hitman to the gods and messing with memory-wiping drugs. Breaking Bad meets Neil Gaiman's Sandman in an urban fantasy from the creators of sleeper hit Coyotes.

Choose Chu (John Layman, Dan Boultwood) - a new series spinning out of Chew, featuring a cop who get psychic impressions from the food he eats, and a criminal who gets psychic impressions from the people she eats with.

Choose from the other huge new indie releases this week - including Power Rangers: Ranger Slayer (Ryan Parrott, Dan Mora) in which an alternate universe Pink Ranger tries to prove she's not the baddie that everyone thinks; Canto and the Clockwork Fairies (David M. Booher, Drew Zucker) is a one shot that bridges the gap between the first and second arcs of the fan favourite series; Tarzan meets Planet of the Apes in Kyrra: Alien Jungle Girl #1 (Rich Woodall, Craig Rousseau); and it's babysitting time in the return of The Green Hornet (Scott Lobdell, Anthony Marques), when a young alien crashes to earth and needs to be kept safe from pretty much everyone really!

Choose Upshot - the new publisher reprints all four #1 issues from their new series in Upshot Now Magazine #1 which features such talent as J. Michael Straczynski, Mike Deodato Jr and Frank Cho! Meanwhile in Analog vol. 2 (Gerry Duggan, Mike Spicer, David O'Sullivan) the internet has collapsed and now it's up to steadfast armed couriers called Ledger Men to move sensitive information around the world in locked briefcases. Let's face it, weirder things could happen in 2020...  Blacksad: The Complete Stories collects five of the unusual detective's biggest cases, and the Out of the Blue hardcover compendium (Garth Ennis, Keith Burns) bring together all of the WW2 aerial combat classic. Hellsing deluxe hardcover (Kohta Hirano) collects volumes 1-4 of the story of the shadowy Hellsing Organisation and Tart (Kevin Joseph, Ludovic Salle) is the tale of a team of time-travelling demon hunters an their newest recruit, Tart Acid.

Choose stars - in Star Trek: Year Five vol. 2 (Jackson Lanzing, Collin Kelly, Jim McCann, Steve Thompson, Angel Hernandez), Kirk, Spock, Bones, Uhura, Sulu, Scotty, and Chekov begin the end of their original five-year mission and boldly go into an uncertain future; Starcraft: War Chest: Shadow Wars (Josh Elder, Richard A. Knaak, Paul Benjamin, Ramanda Kamarga, Naohiro Washio) is a complete collection centred around a fragile ceasefire that exists between the Terrans, Protoss, and Zerg, but there will always be those who want to cause trouble... World of Warcraft: Mage (Richard A. Knaak, Ryo Kawakami) is an original graphic novel set in the world of the popular online game, and Magic The Gathering: Rise of the Gatewatch hardcover is a visual history and celebration of Magic's first team of Planeswalkers. 

Choose Empyre - Marvel are back with more tie-ins this week, as Cap makes the rallying call for help in Empyre Avengers #1 (Jim Zub, Carlos Magno) and Lords of Empyre: Emperor Hulkling  (Chip Zdarsky, Anthony Oliveira, Manuel Garcia) sees a one shot adventure with the now ex-Avenger breaking off on his own. The X-men head back to Genosha in Empyre: X-Men #1 (Jonathan Hickman, Tini Howard, Matteo Buffagni) to fight plant people from outer space...! Finally for single issues from Marvel this week is The Amazing Spider-Man: Sin Rising: Prelude #1 (Nick Spencer, Guillermo Sanna) which sees the return on one of the most terrifying villains from Spidey's history.

Choose Venom - the symbiote saga continues in Venom vol. 4 (Donny Cates, Mark Bagley) which sees Eddie Brock stranded on the Island of Bones after Absolute Carnage.  Sticking with the theme of legendary creators, Avengers vol. 6 (Jason Aaron, Dale Keown, more) in which a mysterious new wielder of the Starbrand has suddenly appeared, unleashing cosmic chaos. Lastly Miles Morales: Spider-Man vol, 3 (Saladin Ahmed, Ig Guara, more) has to take on a whole new enemy in... his uncle?

Choose DC - visit the science fair with the DC Superhero Girls: Weird Science (Amanda Deibert, Erich Owen, Yancy Labat) trade paperback in which magic and science don't mix for Zee Zatara, join the Fastest Man Alive that doesn't actually exist in the Flash Forward (Scott Lobdell, Brett Booth, Norm Rapmund) trade, or enter the mind of a psychopath in Joker / Harley: Criminal Sanity: Secret Files #1.
