New Comics Book Day 19th August 2020 - Everything Is Fine

New Comics Book Day 19th August 2020 - Everything Is Fine

It's all pretty apocalyptic in the releases this week, which pretty much tracks for 2020.

Atlantis Wasn't Built For Tourists #1 (Eric Palicki, Wendell Cavalcanti) isn't about a sunken city, but a backwoods town that has secrets and isn't much keen on outsiders. But what happens when the accidental tourist has as much to hide as the monsters he encounters...?

Sticking with the spooky theme we also have Shadow Service #1 (Cavan Scott, Corin Howell), starring Gina Meyers, a Private Investigator who is also a witch who worries that her powers make her more of a monster than the crooks she’s trying to catch, but it’s not like London’s criminal underworld is literally going to hell… is it? Spy craft meets black magic in the shadowy world of MI666.

Based on the hit podcast of the same name, Voyage To The Stars #1 (James Asmus, Connie Daidone) tells the tale of a band of misfits who have escaped a dying Earth and are trying to defeat a growing evil in the universe. Except all they are really good at is breaking stuff. Like planets and other species.

Staying in outer space we have Engineward #1 (George Mann, Joe Eisma) a future sci-fi tale in which Earth is an ancient myth, long forgotten, and the word of the god-like Celestials is absolute. When Joss, an Engineward, discovers and reactivates the head of an ancient ghoulem, she finds all is not as intended.

Ninjas vs Robots #1 (Erik Klaus, Katy Amacker) tells the story of ninja princess Yuki Tachibana, who finds herself imprisoned on an island infested by killer robots, and must fight amnesia to draw upon a lifetime of ninja training to escape. And on the subject of robots (it's a tenuous link but I'm going with it...) there is Power Rangers: Drakkon New Dawn #1 (Anthony Burch,Simone Ragazzoni) and after the shocking events of Power Rangers: Ranger Slayer, Kimberly is determined to purge the world of Drakkon's legacy, but in doing so, she sets in motion Drakkon's final plan-one that will pit her against a fan favorite Power Rangers villain!

In Cardinal Dagon #1 (Massimo Rosi, Giuseppe Costabile) the pope has died and it is down to a karaoke-singing, womanising Cardinal to bring about the ruin of the earth. Because of course it is.

Marvel are dropping two new titles this week: Lords of Emypre: Swordsman #1 (Alex Paknadel, Thomas Nachlik), which sees the classic character resurrected go on a journey of discovery alongside his son, Quoi, and Maestro #1 (Peter David, German Peralta, Dale Keown) in which we return to the tale of the future-Hulk almost 30 years after the landmark story Future Imperfect.

DC are easing on their laurels with just one book, the Dark Nights: Death Metal Guidebook #1 (Scott Snyder, Vita Ayala, Becky Cloonan, Chip Zdarsky, Joshua Williamson, Doug Mahnke, Eduardo Risso, Dan Panosian, Khary Randolph, Becky Cloonan), which showcases the new factions of Earth and explores the mystery of what happened to our heroes after their battle with Perpetua. How did Wonder Woman become the queen of Hell? How did Batman find the Black Lantern ring? And what happens when Harley Quinn takes charge of the Wasteland, and finds love in the process?

Check out all this week's releases below and we hope to see you in the shop soon!!
